Bonding with your pet: connecting at a soul level
Updated: Apr 7, 2022
Have you ever felt that you have a soul connection with your animal? That your bond runs deeper than the physical? Your feeling is probably bang on. Animals do share a deep spiritual bond with their humans. Read on to discover what this looks and feels like.
The intertwining of lives
We are all energetic beings. Like Albert Einstein said, "Everything is energy and that's all there is to it". And so it makes sense (at least to me anyway!) that energetically we share everything with our fur babes.
Our bodies aren't limited to the physical aspect. Animals and humans have four bodies - the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Ancient spiritual texts also refer to subtle bodies. Depending on the lineage, subtle bodies range in number from three to seven and might include the etheric, emotional, mental, astral, celestial and causal bodies.
In simple terms, our bodies, extending outward beyond the physical frame, have an energetic component and this energy courses through all of us. Animals are much more sensitive to energy than humans. They don't have the human ego to interfere with what they feel and innately know.
It is through our energy or spiritual bodies that we are connected with all beings. One of the most revealing ways that this is seen is how our animals mirror what we are feeling or experiencing. For example:
If we're upset, they can become upset.
If we're stressed out, they can become stressed out.
If we're sick, they can become sick.
How does this happen? It happens because of the energetic connection we share with our fur babes, and in fact, we actually share energy with all beings, including all animals, whether wild or domesticated, human or non-human.
Our lives intertwine through this energetic connection. And that connection begins with what is called a "soul contract" or a "soul agreement".
Soul Contracts
Animals have souls, just like we do. And our souls can journey together throughout multiple lives. Reunion after reunion. We find our way back to each other, if that is what we have chosen before entering our physical bodies.
Our souls make agreements, soul contracts, that set out what experiences we will have in our physical incarnations. These experiences will be part of the journey to learning the lessons that our souls consider beneficial for our growth.
You and your fur babe are here experiencing this journey together. It may be that you've both come here to be together again, to navigate this time together.
Best friends. Soul mates. Spiritual mentors. These are just some of the roles that the animals in our lives play. The role your animal plays in your life, and vice versa, will depend on what you agreed to before you both physically incarnated, and how close you are to your animal.
Mirroring
Have you ever noticed that if you feel stressed, your animal is stressed? Or that your animal has the same physical condition that you do? Or perhaps even the same personality? This is called "mirroring". If it is part of your animal's purpose here with you to mirror your behaviours, your moods, your symptoms, then that is what they will do.
Becoming aware of how your animal is mirroring you can be a great tool in understanding the messages that your animal is trying to communicate to you, the lessons they are trying to teach you.
Energetic match
Some animals will energetically match with their humans. This is similar to mirroring. Just say you struggle with digestive issues, and your animal does too. This could be because they are energetically matched with you. You share the same constitutional weakness.
Transforming your life
It is such a gift to share our lives with animals. If we can receive their unconditional love, connect with them on a spiritual level, and learn from them, we can transform ourselves.
The journey won't always be positive, or easy. But there is always a lesson and there is always love. Deep, deep love. Through this beautiful connection, we can learn how to accept, how to love, how to be patient, how to be kind... how to be.
The downside
The closer you are to your animal, the more likely your animal will absorb your energy. If you are feeling emotions like anxiety, depression, worry, frustration, or you have health issues, your animal can be negatively impacted and have difficulty clearing their own energy. However in the same vein, if you are feelings emotions like joy, elation, relaxation, or you are healthy, your animal can be positively impacted.
Because animals are so attuned to energy, they know when they need to rest in order to clear the energy. But it's important that we don't leave all the heavy lifting to our animals. We need to take care of our own energy so that our animals don't have as much of our "negative" energy to take on and process.
How to strengthen the connection with your animal
Everyone has the ability to form a deep connection with their fur babe and have that super special relationship with them. You can facilitate a deep connection with your animal by spending more time with them, observing them, learning about them (individually and as a species), and connecting to them at the heart level.
