Honour thy differences, thy similarities.

Musings on the differences between each of our animals, each of us, and how to manage it all.

We’re not all the same, nor are our animals. We’re not supposed to be. It’s the differences that make us special.

Have a look at these images. Three cats. Three different sleeping spots. Three different rooms.

They each have their own preferences. What they sleep on, where they sleep, what they eat, when they eat, how they communicate, how they play, when they play, and so on.

In a multi-pet household, this can sometimes look like this:

She doesn’t want to eat this food today.

He wants to eat everything.

She doesn’t feel like eating today.

He wants lots of attention today.

She doesn’t want any attention today.

Then we factor in our selves.

I’m trying to work.

I just want to do nothing.

I can’t help everyone at once.

What do you want?

What do you need?

How can I help you?

I’m so tired.

I’ve got so much to do.

I’m so stressed.

Is this what your life feels like sometimes? Confused? Stressed? Agh. I hear you.

It would be easier if we all just wanted the same thing, at the same time, right?

But life doesn’t work like that. Animals - non human and human - don’t operate like that. Heck, we’re not computer operating systems.

Within each day / week / month / year is a season, a cycle.

There’s a lot to be said for going with the flow, letting go, surrendering. You can’t control everything. Just let it be. Breathe. But even this can be a struggle sometimes.

I don’t have all the answers. But when I observe my cats, just doing their own thing, ahhh, there is so much peace in that.

I love all the ways that they’re different. Even if they can stress me out and worry me sometimes (but really, they’re not stressing me out, I’m stressing me out because of how I react haha).

And even though they’re so different, they’re also so similar. Essentially, they want the same things. Food. Shelter. Connection. Peace. And that’s the same for us.

Honour thy differences, honour thy similarities. And b r e a t h e through it all.

Much love xx
