How Fear Impacts Our Animals & What We Can Do About It
Fear.
It's an emotion that many of us are feeling, even if subconsciously we're not aware of it. Fear can manifest in our actions, our decisions, and our overall way of life.
Over the past few years, fear has reached unprecedented levels, affecting both individuals and society as a whole.
It's not surprising then that there are more and more animals who are being impacted by fear. I actually had a conversation in my DMs this week about this - how our animals can reflect fear that we are feeling.
An animal's reaction to fear can manifest as anxious behaviors. A recent study in Finland, for instance, revealed that out of 13,700 dogs examined, 70% displayed signs of anxiety. The most common anxiety-related trait was noise sensitivity.
Perhaps you've noticed this in your own animals. Are they sensing your fear and reflecting it back? Do they exhibit signs of anxiety? You might have tried various treatments or training methods without success.
So, what options are left for you to explore? How can you provide support to your animal so they can overcome fear?
If the fear is not dealt with, and anxiety persists, it can lead to physical health issues. Therefore, it's super important that if your animal exhibits signs of fear or anxious behaviour, that you take proactive steps to support their emotional and physical wellbeing.
Resolving an animal's fear, doesn't start and end with them. It will often require you doing some inner work.
Have you heard the saying, 'E-motions are energy in motion'? When we experience emotions, we are essentially working with energy. This energy can be sensed by others. If we don't allow our emotions to flow through us and release, they can become trapped within us, even in our cells.
We can pass on our emotions, including emotions that we've repressed, to others, especially our animals.
Consider how you feel when you enter a room with a certain energy. It could be filled with high-energy emotions like joy and excitement, which can uplift your mood. Conversely, entering a room with dense, tense energy can make you feel agitated and uneasy. These are examples of energy in motion - emotions.
Would you like your animal to feel an elevated emotion like joy, or would you like them to feel dense emotions like fear?
To help your animal at an emotional level (which then transcends to the physical), it's necessary for you to regulate your own emotions.
Even a serious business publication like the Harvard Business Review acknowledges the significance of emotional regulation in relation to energy:
"When people are able to take more control of their emotions, they can improve the quality of their energy, regardless of the external pressures they’re facing."
When you successfully manage your emotions, you can enhance the quality of your energy. This not only allows you to experience more elevated emotions and fewer dense ones like fear, stress, and worry - your animal will benefit too.
And this is where the inner work comes in. Your inner work.
These days, there are numerous approaches available for you to explore that can assist you with doing the inner work, to resolve past traumas, to clear repressed emotions. It's a matter of discovering the methods that resonate and work for you.
You could begin by exploring the works of Dr Joe Dispenza, Brandon Bays, Gregg Baden and Bruce Lipton, just to name a few.
You can seek support from an energy healing practitioner.
You could try vibrational remedies like flower essences to facilitate your healing journey.
Remember that Harvard article I mentioned? It also says this -
"...people can cultivate positive emotions by learning to change the stories they tell themselves about the events in their lives."
Transforming the narratives you tell yourself is likely to present challenges. Our minds have accumulated years of programming. It can take time and dedication to reprogram them for the purpose of enhancing our own lives and those of our animals.
I strongly recommend that you also seek support for your animal through this process, to help them release the emotions from their past experiences or that they have taken on (including from you).
Animals, particularly cats, are master healers and are adept at clearing energy. However, there can be instances when they may require assistance to do that.
Energy healing and vibrational remedies are modalities that I find work very well with animals in clearing and balancing their emotions and energy.
Resolving an animal's fear is a holistic process that goes beyond their behaviour. It often necessitates inner work on our part. Emotions play a significant role in this process. If we fail to allow our emotions to flow through us and release, they can become trapped within us and affect our animals.
In summary:
Fear has reached unprecedented levels, for both humans and animals.
Animals who present with fear or anxious behaviours, can be reflecting your fear and anxiety.
If fear is not dealt with, it can result in physical health issues.
It's important to take proactive steps to support your animal's emotional and physical wellbeing.
Helping your animal at an emotional (and physical) level requires both the regulation of your emotions and supporting them with healing.
Learning how to regulate your emotions can take time and dedication. Fortunately, there are numerous approaches to support you with this, such as mindset, energy healing and vibrational remedies.
